Maroon at Noon

I’ve been craving spring/summer lately. It must be the freezing temperatures and rain we had over the weekend. I can usually take the colder temperatures and lack of greenery until about the end of January, at which point I decide I am over the cold temperatures and ready for longer days, spring buds, and spending free time outdoors.  Despite being 2 months away, I gave myself a little spring this weekend and put together this causal look around subtle nautical pieces: knot earrings, a classic stripe tee and a denim vest. Instant spring in the dead of winter – all that is missing are the tulips. Next stop – whole foods… ON.StripedWine.RW.01.15g

In an effort to find a comfortable look for a evening in the city, these Gap maroon cords and deep purple scarf were the perfect compliment. They pair nicely with the blue tones in the striped tee and the denim vest. When pairing colors, I tend to try to keep all the colors in the same tone. For example, all the colors in this look are from the cooler tone – perfect for the cooler winter months as compared to the warmer more vibrant colors of the spring/summer. Mixing and matching colors is another little trick to add to your book…

If you are looking to add a few classic, versatile pieces to your wardrobe – consider adding a great striped tee and denim jacket/vest. These will be pieces that will carry you through all the seasons and can easily be paired with various styles. Tomorrow I will be discussing the first in a series on basics that can be used to build a winter wardrobe featuring some of my current favorite pieces. Be sure to stop in and let me know what items you would include in your basic list…
