Hues of Blue at Dusk

J and I spent New Years with family & friends just outside the city, and I noticed that the sun was just beginning to set as we were driving across a quaint single-laned-covered bridge. I asked J to pull over in an attempt to capture the moment.  My affinity for this beautiful country road runs years strong – this is where I met my husband and where my “routes” began. There is nothing quite like a quiet country road as the sun is setting over whats left of last seasons harvest. While some see weeds and the remains of last season’s crop, I see hope, the future, and a promise for the return of spring. I feel so blessed to be able to escape to the country and then return to our beloved city. Who said you can’t have your country and city too?

I have a tendency to reach for comfort pieces when we travel or when I am uncertain of where the day/evening might take us. Flexibility is key and putting together a look of easy/go-with-the-flow pieces certainly helps. I ended up finding this top on major sale at the Loft and paired it with old faux leather pants for a night out with friends. Blue tones are such a great color to style during the chilly winter month – the perfect color pop against the usual winter neutrals like grey, camel, creamy whites, and blacks. I have some plans to remix this look and style the top both in a more dressy/office appropriate look and causally for a weekend brunch. I’ve been trying to add a little color to my everyday, especially as the temperature plummet…

Happy Friday Friends! We made it through the first work week of the new year and survived the frozen tundra that has taken over the country. Here’s to staying warm and getting things done this weekend. Any good plans? The usual weekend for J&I –  errands, a few workouts, and some well deserved R&R and time watching the weekend sports. Sounds like the absolutely perfect weekend. Be sure to follow along via instagram (link to the right) for glimpse into the everyday and sneak peeks of what’s to come next week…

Hope to see you back on Monday…
