Lady in Red

We had our first snow of the season yesterday in Philly and it was absolutely breathtaking, especially with the residual holiday lights hung amongst the quiet city streets. It was the perfect dusting, just around 2 inches. Enough to cover the city in a beautiful blanket of white.  Between the twinkling of the lights and the flurry of white gently gathering on the steps, it was almost as if you could hear the silence. It made for a such a peaceful walk to work – one that reminded me of how special moments like these are. They bring clarity and presence to the hustle and bustle of our lives. It was one of those stop-and-smell-the-roses moments…

As the temperatures start to drop, I find myself reaching for cozy sweaters and lots of layers. It can be tough in the winter months to balance warmth and style without looking too bulky. Sweater dresses, like this festive one from Banana Republic, are the perfect solution for the long blustery days ahead. Layering them with tailored coats and adding a scarf helps to ensure both warmth and helps to give shape to the look. Printed tights and a statement necklace are fun ways to change and add detail to any outfit. I have gotten so much wear out of these printed tights and I love finding them on sale. On the agenda for the weekend sweater dresses and tights, especially if the snow this morning is indicative of what is to come…

On the way home from the gym this evening, I found myself thinking about a word I wanted to live by this year. I couldn’t choose one so I picked two, cultivate (the essence of my new years resolution) and fearless.  I chose fearless because dreams aren’t achieved when we live in fear. The late Stuart Scott said it best “You beat cancer by HOW you live, WHY you live, and the manner in which you live.” You can beat anything by embracing Scotts words and creating the life you’ve imagined for yourself. Appreciative of the simple beauty of the snowy weather today, a reminder to slow down and take time see the bigger picture…

Happy Wednesday Friends – hope to see you on Friday for the final look featuring the statement necklace…
